- By entering the blog contest, you have an opportunity to learn how to use the tool and you may find it useful for your development or administration. You will also help other users to discover the tool and start using it. Last but not least, you may win a nice prize for this!
- How do I enter the contest?
- Post a blog describing your experience using the Java VisualVM, whether a tutorial, insight, tech tip, or other blog posting. Use the submission form to provide a permalink to the blog entry and all other requested information. Entries must be your original material.
- What version of Java VisualVM should I blog about?
- You can blog about the opensource VisualVM tool available at visualvm.dev.java.net or the Java VisualVM tool available in Sun JDK 6 update 7 or a newer version. You may use any VisualVM version, but the contest judges prefer that you blog about the newer versions containing the latest features.
- How do I get the latest version or learn how to use?
- Do you have any suggestions on what to post?
- Here are some suggestions:
- Success story: how Java VisualVM helped you to solve setup or performance problems
- Tutorial: how to solve a problem (for example, a memory leak) with Java VisualVM

- Does the blog need to be in a particular language?
- Yes, all blogs must be written in English.
- What are the prizes?
- The Java VisualVM development team will review each submitted blog entry and select winners:
- Top Prize — The top 3 bloggers will receive USD $500 American Express Gift Certificate.
- 2nd Prize — The next Top 10 bloggers will receive USD $50 American Express Gift Certificate.
- 3rd Prize — The next Top 20 bloggers will receive USD $20 American Express Gift Certificate.
- Who are the judges?
- All the entries will be judged by a panel of Java VisualVM developers.
- What criteria will the judges use to judge the contest?
- Each entry will be judged based on the following equally weighted judging criteria:
- Novelty and originality of the blog entry
- Usefulness and character of the substantive feedback
- The blog's interest and appeal to other users of Java VisualVM
- Clarity in the expression about the user experience
- Way that the blog demonstrates
- The ability to use the blog to improve any aspect of Java VisualVM
- When is the deadline for submissions?
- The submission deadline is 11:59 P.M. (PT) which is 8:59 A.M. (GMT) on June 24th, 2009.
- When will the winners be announced?
- Winners will be announced on July 6th, 2009. You will see the list of the winners on the Java VisualVM Blogging Contest website.
- How will the winners be notified?
- Winners will be notified via email on or after July 6th, 2009.
