The RMI over IIOP IDL Compiler works with the Object Request Broker (ORB) in RMI over IIOP 1.0.1 to build cross-platform distributed applications. The RMI over IIOP IDL Compiler generates JavaTM programming language client stubs and server skeletons from CORBA IDL that conform to the IDL to Java programming language mapping defined by the Object Management Group. RMI over IIOP allows interfaces to be defined completely in the Java programming language, so in many cases IDL (and an IDL compiler) is not needed to write distributed applications for the Java technology environments. This IDL Compiler works with RMI over IIOP to support writing distributed applications for the Java platform. The RMI over IIOP 1.0.1 IDL Compiler is written completely in the Java programming language and runs on JDKTM 1.1.6 virtual machines1 and the JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition SDK, version 1.2.
