JavaFX is a platform for creating and delivering Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) -- web applications
that use rich media types such as video, audio, graphics, and rich text -- that can run in a wide variety of devices, anywhere from handsets-to-laptops-to desktops. In many cases, you can compile and run the same JavaFX application code in a mobile environment, a desktop environment, or in a browser.
The JavaFX platform combines a declarative scripting language, JavaFX Script, and set of tools that make it easy build RIAs quickly and collaboratively.
Here's a screen shot of the kind of cool RIAs you can easily build with JavaFX:

It's a 3D display shelf. If you click an image in the real Display Shelf application, the display moves
the selected image to the front, rotating the other images forward or backward. You can see the application in action here.
JavaFX is really an exciting platform with a lot of potential in the RIA development arena. With this in mind, I invited Jacob Lehrbaum, the Senior Product Line Manager for JavaFX Marketing at Sun Microsystems, to demonstrate some of the exciting features in the platform. Watch it. I think you'll lenjoy it.
