The following J2EE products and technologies were recently released:

Verisign Root Certificate Advisory
Verisign Class 3 and Class 2 PCA Root Certificate Expiration on January 7, 2004. Check the Sun Alert below for full problem descriptions and workarounds.

Java Application Verification Kit (AVK) for the Enterprise 1.4 Beta Features:
Web services tests, installation wizard for installing the AVK and updating the J2EE App Server Validation of J2EE archives (EAR, JAR, and WAR files), and support for component libraries

JSR-73 Java DataMining API Specification 0.95 Public Review Draft 2
Addresses the need for a data mining API aligned with existing, evolving data mining standards efforts.

JSR-127 JavaServer Faces 1.0 Proposed Final Draft
JavaServer Faces technology includes:
- A set of APIs for: representing UI components and managing their state, handling events and input validation, defining page navigation, and supporting internationalization and accessibility.
- A JavaServer Pages (JSP) custom tag library for expressing a JavaServer Faces interface within a JSP page.

Sun's Dr. James Gosling, CTO, developer programs, reports on NASA's Mars mission and the exciting role of Java technology in the mission.

Sun, Developer Community and Commercial Vendors Fuel NetBeans.org
Sun announced that the NetBeans software and community have been named a finalist in two categories for the 19th Annual Codie Awards: Best Software Development Product and Best Open Source Project or Service. The demand for NetBeans 3.5, the most current version of the NetBeans software, underscores the momentum of the platform, with approximately 1.8 million downloads since its June 2003 release.

Sun Launches Java for Linux Community on Java.net
Sun announced a new java.net community for Linux developers with expanded support for Java technology-based development tools on the Solaris Operating System and Linux and Windows platforms.

Sun Gets an "A" for Affordability
Sun announced the roll out of the Sun Java Desktop System to the K-12 and higher education market. The Java Desktop System for Education is an affordable, comprehensive, simple to use and secure enterprise-class desktop solution.

Sun Wins Design Awards from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture
Proving that good looks and intelligence can go hand-in-hand, Sun Microsystems has been recognized this week with two prestigious 2003 Good Design Awards for its 24" Flat Panel Monitor, and Sun Fire Blade Server products.

Sun Brings Array of New Products and Services to Linuxworld
Sun previewed many next-generation products and roadmaps for Linux support of the Sun Java Enterprise System, Java Studio development tools and new AMD Opteron processor-based x86 systems.
