Product and Technology Releases

The following J2EE products and technologies were recently released:

Sun Java System Application Server 8 Platform Edition + NetBeans 3.6 Cobundle English First Customer Ship
This release is J2EE 1.4 platform-compatible, and designed for developer productivity. It features integrated JavaServer Faces support and production support available through Sun Service. It also includes software developed by the Apache Software Foundation (http://www.apache.org).

JavaMail API 1.3.1 First Customer Ship
The 1.3.1 release contains bug fixes as well as support for DIGEST-MD5 authentication in the SMTP provider.

JSR-181 Web Services Metadata for the Java Platform 0.7 Early Draft Review
Defines an annotated Java format that uses Java Language Metadata (JSR-175) to enable easy definition of Java Web Services in a J2EE container.

JSR-163 Java Platform Profiling Architecture 1.0 PFD
A mechanism and APIs for extracting time- and space-profiling information from a running Java virtual machine (JVM).

JSR-073 Data Mining API 0.96 Proposed Final Draft
Addresses the need for a pure Java API that supports the building of data mining models, the scoring of data using models, the creation, storage, access, and maintenance of data and metadata supporting data mining results, and select data transformations.

J2EE SDK 1.4.1 SCSL
The Java 2 Software Development Kit (SDK), Enterprise Edition is the reference implementation for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform. Sun has made the SDK source code available to the developer community as part of Sun's Community Source Licensing Program.

JSR-133 - Java Memory Model and Thread Specification Revision PFD
Describes the semantics of threads, locks, volatile variables, and data races, and includes what has been referred to as the Java memory model.

Java Application Verification Kit (AVK) for the Enterprise 1.4 First Customer Ship
This free kit features a new installation wizard and portability features for testing web services.
