Introducing DukeDollars
Too many questions and followups on the Usenet and not enough answers?
Would you like your contribution to the Java community acknowledged?
Well DukeDollars are what you have been waiting for!
Getting Started
Each registered user has been given 10 DukeDollars. Although these
have no monetary value, they have a value on the JDC. You can spend your DukeDollars to post questions
to the JDC newsgroups. The more DukeDollar points you allocate to your post, the more
likely someone will want to answer the question, to acquire the
allocated DukeDollars.
Posting a Question
To post a question, select one of the appropriate newsgroups on the
left of the newsgroup browser then click the Post button at the top.
A new window will appear in which you can enter your question,
add a subject and choose how many DukeDollars you want to allocate to this
question. Clicking on Submit will send the question to the
group.
While your post is still open, other members can suggest answers or
comments, and you can also add your own comments.
Replying to a Question
To reply to another person's question, or your own question, select
the question from the article list on the right of the newsgroup browser,
then click the Reply button.
A new window will appear in which you can enter your reply or comment,
then click the Submit button to add it to the article.
Closing a Question
You can close your question at any time. Each time you select an open
question that is yours, a Close Article button will appear at
the bottom of the screen. If you click this button the
Close window appears. If there are no answers to your question then you can
request an automatic refund by clicking the Get Refund
button.
If there are answers, the name of each person who
sent a reply appears at the bottom of the Close window.
For each user choose "Correct Answer," "Of some help," or "No help" according to the information and help they gave you, and click Apply.
When each person has had their contribution rated,
click the Apply button to close the question.
The extra points given to these users are from a central pool and don't
affect your own DukeDollars.
Timeout of questions
If a question is still open and has not been updated for a month you will
be notified by email to close the question or a post a new reply to
that question. If the question is still open and has not been updated for
a further two weeks it will be closed and a engineer will allocate the
points for you. This process may switch over to a fully automated if there
are too many questions to close.
