Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition v1.3_01 Release

  Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition
Version 1.3_01 Release
Updated 10/02/01

Version 1.3 of the Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition (J2EE SDK) is a complete implementation of the Java 2, Enterprise Edition 1.3 Platform intended as a proof of concept and example for implementations in the application server marketplace. The J2EE SDK includes a J2EE application server and various tools to help developers prototype J2EE applications and learn about the J2EE platform and technologies. It can be used as a J2EE development enviroment for applications prior to their deployment and distribution. It is not allowed to be put into production use.

Release 1.3_01 is an update to Version 1.3 that corrects the deployment descriptors put out by J2EE SDK 1.3 tools for EJB CMP 2.0 entity beans and EJB CMP 1.1 entity beans to make them compatible with beans developed on other J2EE application servers for portability purposes. Users developing portable applications with the J2EE SDK using these technologies should download the new release.

What's New in This Release

This release includes a number of features that are new to the J2EE SDK. These include enhancements to the Servlet and JavaServer Pages (JSP) technologies with the addition of the Tomcat 4.0 container. Servlets now support application level filters and application event listeners and JSP pages support XML page syntax. The J2EE Connector Architecture provides additional connectivity to existing enterprise information systems. Enhancements to the Enterprise JavaBeans component model include message-driven beans, interoperability between EJB containers, and container-managed persistence version 2.0. This version of container-managed persistence allows you to define relationships and local interfaces for enterprise beans.
