J2EE Application Deployment Specification

The Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Deployment API Specification (JSR-88) defines standard APIs to enable a deployment of J2EE components and applications. It is intended to enable the development of platform-independent deployment tools. The reference implementation for the J2EE Deployment Specification Version 1.1 is now available as part of the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8. It can also be implemented as an extension to the J2EE 1.3 platform.

J2EE Deployment API Reference Implementation, Version 1.0: Extending the J2EE Deployment API Capabilities of the Sun ONE Studio, Community Edition 3.0

The J2EE Deployment API Reference Implementation, Version 1.0 integrates the deployment functionality proposed by JSR-88 into the Sun ONE Studio, Community Edition 3.0 (formerly Forte for Java 3.0, Community Edition) product using the Open API model provided by Netbeans/Forte. The goal of this RI is to provide a tool for distributing any J2EE application to any J2EE server that has implemented the J2EE Deployment API interfaces. The tool also enables starting, stopping, and undeploying these applications.

This release supports the Solaris/SPARC, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Red Hat Linux platforms.

Configuration Information

The J2EE Deployment API RI software requires either Windows NT 4.0; Windows 2000; Solaris 2.7 or 2.8; or Red Hat Linux 6.2.

This release has been tested with J2SE 1.3.1_02 and higher.

The software must be installed on a system with a minimum of 256 MB of memory (RAM) and a minimum of 128 MB of hard disk space.

Please see the following Web page for more details on system requirements: http://www.sun.com/software/sundev/jde/sysreq.html
