Supported System Configurations
JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition
Version 1.4.2

Sun produces J2SE (both JRE and SDK) that runs on the following operating systems and CPUs. Other vendors provide ports of J2SE to various operating systems and CPUs not listed here. Note that Sun only produces an SDK for Itanium 2 operating systems (no JRE).

Check the Supported Locales document for the supported writing systems (languages) for each platform. The JRE does not support all writing systems on all platforms.

Update Release Footnotes

  1. Support for Windows Vista (32-bit only) was introduced in 1.4.2_15. The release has passed all of our standard platform tests. However, no improvements to enable native Windows Vista look and feel have been made or are planned for the 1.4.2 release family. For the best possible client application experience, Sun recommends using the latest version of the latest release family available on our download page .
  2. Support for Solaris x64 was introduced in 1.4.2_11.
  3. Support for IE 7 on Windows XP was introduced in 1.4.2_15.
  4. Support for SUSE 10 and SLES 10 was introduced in 1.4.2_15.
