Robert Brewin

Robert Brewin is a Sun distinguished engineer and CTO at Sun Microsystems, which includes responsibility for providing executive technical oversight and leadership for the products and technologies that comprise the Application Platform Software (APS) portfolio. The APS group is focused on the development and delivery of the open source and commercial application platforms, upon which the majority of businesses are run today, across a dizzying array of devices, from handheld phones to datacenters to clouds. The platforms include databases, application servers, Web infrastructure, identity, business integration, and the Java platform. Some of the key initiatives include the development and integration of next-generation client technologies such as JavaFX, improved scaling, performance and integration of core elements of APS centered around the GlassFish application server, and pushing the envelope into open, next-generation, high-scale Web platforms.

Brewin brings his extensive customer and developer-focused experience to bear; prior to taking on this role he was co-CTO for Sun Software, which in addition to APS products also included developer tools, the Solaris OS, virtualization software, and cloud services. Prior to that, Brewin was the chief architect for Sun's developer tools portfolio, where he was a principal driver behind a number of key initiatives and projects. These included strategic enhancements to the award-winning NetBeans IDE, architectural changes and alignment of the Studio family of tools and add-ons with NetBeans, and acting as the visionary behind the design, creation, and delivery of the revolutionary Java Studio Creator product.


Christopher David
Head of Developer and Partner Engagement

Christopher David is the Head of Developer and Partner Engagement and responsible for driving and communicating Sony Ericsson's developer strategy in terms of their multi-platform approach, as well as articulating the relevance of content development to developer and partner, and 'prosumer' communities.

Christopher's deep knowledge and understanding of the telecoms industry stem from 19 years' experience in various engineering, sales and technologist roles. Christopher spent many years in the software development business at Ericsson, Logica, Sun Microsystems and Sony Ericsson. He also has over 10 years' experience in standards-related work with Parlay, OMA, JCP and OSGi Alliance, where he held positions on the board, as spec lead and chair.


James Gosling
Vice President and Sun Fellow

James Gosling received a BSc in computer science from the University of Calgary, Canada, in 1977. He received a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983. The title of his thesis was "The Algebraic Manipulation of Constraints." He's built satellite data acquisition systems, a multiprocessor version of the UNIX OS, and several compilers, mail systems, and window managers. He's also built a WYSIWYG text editor, a constraint-based drawing editor, and a text editor called "Emacs" for UNIX systems. At Sun, his early activity was as lead engineer of the NeWS window system. He did the original design of the Java programming language and implemented its original compiler and virtual machine. In February 2007, James was named an officer of the Order of Canada.


Craig Hayman

Since 2007 Craig has been responsible for the WebSphere portfolio and a worldwide team of over 6,000 employees. Previously, Craig was V.P. of Development and Technical Support for Lotus where he oversaw the collaboration portfolio including WebSphere Portal, Lotus Sametime, and Lotus Notes.

Craig has also held the positions of V.P., Worldwide Solutions Development, V.P. of Strategy, IBM Software Group, and Director WebSphere development, where he helped drive the WebSphere Application Server to double-digit growth.

Mr. Hayman joined IBM in 1997 as program director for meta-data management, where he created the XML standard needed to represent objects in transactional systems. In 1999 he was on the core team that revamped the IBM development tools as the WebSphere Studio line of products launched together with the underlying open source development environment eclipse.org.


Eric Klein, Jr.

Eric Klein is a product marketing executive with extensive experience developing and marketing best-in-class consumer and media solutions that include hardware, software, and service components. His passion is creating products and platforms that intuitively solve real customer problems at the intersection of mobile, consumer, location-based services, and entertainment. As Sun's VP of marketing for Java technology, Klein's team is responsible for the strategy, roadmap, strategic partnerships, and marketing for Sun's Java platform. His last role before joining Sun was as the senior director of product marketing at Dash Navigation, a KP/Sequoia startup that shipped the world's first two-way connected personal navigation device, the Dash Express. He has previously enjoyed product roles at Real Networks, Palm, and Apple, and has started or played an early role in a number of Bay Area startups.


Dan'l Lewin
Corporate Vice President, Strategic and Emerging Business Development

Dan'l Lewin, corporate vice president for Strategic and Emerging Business Development, is responsible for Microsoft Corp.'s global relationships with startups, venture capitalists and the business relationships with industry partners such as Adobe Systems Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. and IBM Corp. Based in Silicon Valley, Lewin also has executive and site responsibility for the company's operations in Mountain View, Calif., which currently employ 2,000 people.

Strategic and Emerging Business Development consists of three groups: the Emerging Business Team, the Local Software Economy (LSE) and the Strategic Relations Group, whose common goal is to support software startups and established companies working on the Microsoft platform while helping develop and grow local software economies worldwide. Through the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program, Microsoft BizSpark Program, and the LSE's Microsoft Innovation Center Program, Lewin's groups help accelerate startup success in more than 60 countries.

Lewin has spent more than 30 years as a Silicon Valley-based executive leading sales and marketing divisions for companies including Apple Computer Inc., NeXT Inc. and GO Corp. Before joining Microsoft, he was CEO of Aurigin Systems Inc., a startup that pioneered intellectual property asset management, and he has consulted for emerging companies, venture capital firms and corporate joint ventures.

Lewin serves on the boards of the Churchill Club; Software Development Forum; American Electronics Association; Santa Clara University Center for Science, Technology and Society; and the Tech Museum of Innovation, where he serves as chairman of the Tech Museum Awards program. He is also on the Corporate Advisory Board of the National Venture Capital Association. He holds an AB in politics from Princeton University.


Steven Martin
Senior Director, Developer Platform Product Management

Steven Martin is senior director of developer platform product management at Microsoft Corp. In this capacity, Martin's role is to bring together development innovations, including those that drive rich client, web tier, application tier, middle tier and cloud. Projects and technologies currently under Martin's leadership include Silverlight, the .NET Framework, and Azure, "Oslo" and the forthcoming application server enhancements in Windows Server, codenamed "Dublin". He is also charged with participating in cross-group leadership teams to ensure that Microsoft's Server & Tools technologies, together, meet the real-world businesses needs of a broad customer and partner base.

Before joining Microsoft, Martin served as director at Netscape Communications Corp. He previously worked for Cyclone Commerce Inc., where he helped define and promote the EDI/XML B2B Interchange product. Before joining Cyclone Commerce, Martin founded Stonehenge Group Inc., a company specializing in technology consulting and the resale of electronic data interchange software.

Martin is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he completed a bachelor of science in psychology.


Chris Melissinos
Chief Evangelist and Chief Gaming Officer

Chris Melissinos is Sun Microsystems' chief evangelist and chief gaming officer. A 15-year veteran of Sun Microsystems, Melissinos has contributed to and led numerous technology developments, including Java APIs focused on media and entertainment markets, mobile technologies, and he was one of the originators of the Project Darkstar initiative. His expertise in technology adoption, social platforms, developer communities, and impact of technology as a change agent has made him a sought-after speaker around the world. Offering insight into transforming education, social changes in youth culture, next-generation technology development and emerging development communities, Melissinos' speaking resume includes JavaOne, SISCTI, Game Developers Conference, NUTN, E3, PAX, 3GSM, Stanford's AlwaysOn, and Harvard's Cyberposium.

As the founder of JavaGaming.org, the largest and oldest Web resource focused specifically on the interactive and entertainment markets for Java technologies, Melissinos has been championing the use and adoption of Java technologies for over a decade. A technologist to the core, he started programming at the age of 9 and still hacks hardware and code to this day.

Melissinos is the host of the weekly SHIFT Radio show, was the creator and host of the highly popular "LevelUp" Web show, and has held advisory seats for conferences such as Game Developers Conference Mobile and NCTA. He currently sits on the advisory board of NBC's GameX conference as well as JavaOne.


Patrik Olsson

Patrik Olsson is Head of Software at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. In this capacity, he oversees the company's overall strategy around mobile software development, platform architecture and technical integration across the Sony Ericsson product portfolio.

Patrik is a ten-year veteran of Sony Ericsson and the mobile industry. Prior to his current role, he held a number of senior management and technical positions at Sony Ericsson, including Head of Platform Software, Head of Application Software and Strategy, and Head of Software Architecture.

Patrik has a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Connecticut and a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering From the Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden.


Rikko Sakaguchi

Rikko Sakaguchi is Corporate Vice President of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Head of Creation and Development. Prior to his role at Sony Ericsson, Rikko played an instrumental role in the creation of the Sony Ericsson joint venture whilst working in the Corporate Development and Business Strategy division of Sony Corporation. He also has a number of years of experience in management as well as sales and marketing for Sony companies in Spain and Mexico.
