Dear JavaOne Attendees,
Sun has a history of making bold moves. Twelve years ago Sun introduced Java and made the concept of "Write Once Run Anywhere" a reality. We did it again when we open sourced Java in November 2006 under GPL v. 2.0. The message to software developers and the world is clear ... we're not about to stop our bold moves and we're opening the door to new possibilities.
The Java platform has always provided many opportunities and new possibilities, but with the move to open source we have radically accelerated the rate of innovation and created greater and broader value to the platform. Already running on more devices than Windows, Linux and OS X combined, Java is set to reach a new level of distribution and popularity. Now, with Java and Linux using the same license, the barriers to using Java continue to be knocked down and an increasing number of developers are coming together to innovate and create value in and on the Java platform.
With these advancements, Java technology is set to take center stage in a new era that connects everything and everyone worldwide. Individuals are fueling demand for new types of applications, data and interactions focused on the consumer market. The Java platform is quickly evolving to power this new generation of applications and bring along the superior compatibility, flexibility and security capabilities that we've all come to expect as intrinsic values of Java technology. So we're amping up the focus on client side Java technology as you will see demonstrated in this year's JavaOne.
2007 JavaOne features some new highlights, updated events, expert speakers and programs that address the needs of our collective developer and expanding business communities. We have a wider variety of conference sessions addressing Web 2.0, scripting, services and integration and we're offering a range of conference tracks and hands-on labs focused on tools and languages, Open Source, and next-generation web, as well as more traditional topics such as consumer technologies, desktop, Java EE, Java ME, and Java SE.
We are offering our traditional programs including sessions and the JavaOne Pavilion as well as a number of new programs:
- The JavaOne Pavilion-Meet leading companies and exciting startups that are pushing innovation with Java technology and dedicated Pavilion hours for attendees and exhibitors to have more face to face interaction.
- .org Zone-A dedicated area of the JavaOne pavilion floor featuring open source communities that are driving Java innovation.
Duke's Choice Awards-Recognize extreme innovation in the world of Java technology.
- Digital TV Day-A full day designed for developers interested in understanding digital television software technologies and markets.
NetBeans Software Day-Learn what's happening with the NetBeans architecture IDE and platform.
- Java University Program-One e-day or two half-day courses created and delivered by Sun-certified instructors, Sun chief engineers, and industry-recognized guest speakers.
- Java Technology Business Day for Business Managers-A full day dedicated to business managers that want their Java-based business to be even more successful.
These are great programs, but returning attendees know there's much more to JavaOne than attending sessions and hands-on labs. JavaOne is a forum that brings us all together, face to face, to network, brainstorm and create new ideas and opportunities. Whether you're a first time attendee, seasoned developer, speaker or venture investor, there are new relationships to forge and new opportunities awaiting you.
The Java platform's future has never been brighter. But predicting the future is not as much fun as creating it. And that's what JavaOne is all about. So participate, join an open source community, download some code.
Thanks for being a part of the growing, exciting Java community and enjoy the week.
Sincerely,
Rich Green
