Requirements
Installing a 64-bit Java 2 Runtime Environment is a two-step process.
First, you must install the 32-bit Java 2 Runtime Environment (Java RE).
Installation instructions for the 32-bit Java Runtime Environment are
available in
a separate document. Second, you
must install the supplemental files for 64-bit support using the
installation instructions below.
Installation Instructions
The 64-bit supplement for the Java 2 Runtime Environment
comes in the form of a self-extracting binary file. Follow the instructions
below to install the Java RE.
Note: For any lines on this page containing the following
notation, you must substitute the appropriate Java RE update version number
for the notation.
<version number>
For example, if you are downloading update 1.4.0_01, the following command:
chmod +x j2re-1_4_0_<version number>-solaris-sparcv9.sh
would become:
chmod +x j2re-1_4_0_01-solaris-sparcv9.sh

Check the download file size
Check the large file that you downloaded to ensure that it
is the correct size:
Before you download a file, notice that its byte size is provided
on the download page.
Once the download has completed, check that you have downloaded the
full, uncorrupted software file.

Make sure that execute permissions are set on
the self-extracting binary:
chmod +x j2re-1_4_0_<version number>-solaris-sparcv9.sh

Move the self-extracting binary file to the
location where you installed the 32-bit Java 2 Runtime Environment.
4.
Run the self-extracting binary.
Files for support of 64-bit operation will be installed at
several locations within the j2re1.4.0_<version number>
directory created previously by installation of the 32-bit Java RE.
