J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
Linux (64-bit AMD)
System Requirements
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 is supported
on Linux platforms running on 64-bit AMD processors.
For supported versions of Linux and desktop managers, along
with disk and RAM requirements, see
System Configurations.
Installation Instructions
This procedure installs the J2SE Runtime Environment, but not the Java Plug-in or
Java Web Start (which are not yet available for 64-bit Linux).
The J2SE Runtime Environment for Linux 64-bit comes bundled
in two install formats, whose filenames are given here:
- Self-extracting binary:
jre-1_5_0_<version>-linux-amd64.bin
- RPM File:
jre-1_5_0_<version>-linux-amd64-rpm.bin
To install, download these files and otherwise follow the
32-bit Linux installation.
Known Problems
When running the rpm command, the warning
"user java_re does not exist - using root" may be displayed.
You can ignore this warning, which is due to a bug in
the installation package.
